Rewind to June 20th. Several sources reported that Lisa Navas would no longer be the softball coach at NC State. Here at WolfpackWorld, we reported on Lisa Navas’ record and how similar her performance was to former head basketball coach Herb Sendek. Navas lead a record of mediocrity that is indicative of the past athletic director’s administration and the attitude that as long as you are “good enough”, we’ll keep you in Raleigh.
Less than two months later, Debbie Yow continues to amaze and surprise us.
Last Friday, NC State announced that Shawn Rychcik would be NC State’s next softball coach. Just for review, Lisa Navas was a coach who led NC State to a 296-226 record overall and a below 0.500 record within the ACC. Rychcik comes into NC State from Boston University with a 271-159-1 record overall. He is also an assistant coach for the US women’s softball team.
“There is some work to be done at N.C. State but I also want to – it’s going to be a process,” Rychcik said. “I want that opportunity to challenge myself in a bigger conference and better competition and maybe compete more nationally. Maybe get myself to the World Series. That would be a goal, and that is the goal of the department there. (link)
CORRECT! The goal is the top. The goal isn’t to be above 0.500 or to beat specific programs. The GOAL is to be the best in the country and refuse to accept mediocrity at any level within the program.
Welcome to the family and do us proud.

WolfpackWorld is created by an alumni of NC State University to talk about sports, campus events, and anything else affecting the university. We believe that sharing your opinions about NC State shouldn't be something that you have to be a web-genius or a member of some inside "old boys club" to enjoy. Good opinions also shouldn't be buried in the usual muck of online forums and web-communities. At WolfpackWorld, we believe being a fan is a part of who we are.
